A reminder that Thursday's meeting, Dec. 28, is the club holiday party at Bourbon Butcher. If you go to Celt's, you'll be partying by yourself. Here's the scoop:
The party is at Bourbon Butcher from noon to 1 p.m.
Heavy appetizers will be served.
Drinks are on your own.
Bring a wrapped, white elephant gift for a game.
Feel free to hang out after 1 p.m. with your fellow Rotarians who are not going back to work.
Did you know that 40 percent of our food in the United States goes into the trash? In addition to wasting all this food, it takes a lot of water, energy and fuel to grow and get that food to our dinner tables.
Come to our first meeting of 2018 on Jan. 4 when we hear Jennifer Kenwood with Dakota County talk to us about what we can do to reduce this waste. We meet at noon at Celt's in downtown Farmington and guests are always welcome.
If you missed the last deadline for signing up for the RI convention in Toronto June 9-14, 2018, it's not too late. Sara still has a few rooms on hold for Farmington Rotary. Contact her by Jan. 12 if you're interested in going. She can give you all the details.
Be sure to offer a warm Farmington-Rotary welcome to our newest member, John Guist. John's application for membership was approved at the Dec. 18 board meeting.
John is vice chair of the Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network and lead pastor and board president of Middle Creek Vineyard Church. John lives in Farmington with his wife, Paige, and is actively involved in the community with a number of organizations. In his spare time, John enjoys art, playing music, martial arts and the outdoors.
We're thrilled to have John as a member of Farmington Rotary and look forward to working with him on the club's many projects. Please introduce yourself and welcome him aboard.
Rotarian Rachelle Pariseau's dad, Paul Hurt, passed away on Dec. 17. The funeral will be Wed., Dec. 27 at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with the funeral mass beginning at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Read the full obituary...

You have only a few days to make sure your dues are paid up through December 31. David will be at the Dec. 28 party at Bourbon Butcher and will be only too happy to accept a check from you at that time.
The majority of our dues go toward our weekly meals, which the club pays on your behalf even if you haven't paid. Check now with David if you're not sure if you've paid or if you need to make arrangements to pay, or if you just have questions about dues or anything with the club's finances.
There's nothing quite like starting a New Year with a clean slate. Thank you for attending to this matter.

The spring Conference of Clubs (formerly known as the District Conference) will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 19-20, at the new Mystic Conference Center, part of the Mystic Lake Hotel and Casino complex, in Prior Lake. See attached brochure for more information on what is planned.

Giving the meal count to the kitchen
