You know how I told you last week that this week's meeting would be all about getting to know each other? Well, plans have changed. Instead of getting to know each other, tomorrow's March 16 meeting will be all about getting to know Snapchat, the popular app that is all the rage with millennials and lets you easily talk with friends, view live stories from around the world, and explore news in Discover. I have no idea what that means. I just got that description off the Snapchat website.
But our own Jenna Pellicci is convinced that Farmington Rotary, Ramble Jam and YOUR BUSINESS need to be on Snapchat. So she's going to show us how to do it. Come to the meeting and learn how to download the app, set up an account and get started. Learn how to use it to promote your business. Learn how to explore news in Discover, because to me, discover is a verb and I'd like to know how it can be a noun. So should you.
And here is the "more" part. Time permitting, Janie and Corey will lead a discussion about how they use social media to promote their business – and how you can use it too. And you probably have some tips to share too. So don't be shy – tell us what you know! And tell us what you would like to know. Related to social media, of course.

Have you heard about Farmington Journey? This exciting new program provides new opportunities of interest to adults around the age of 50 and older as they continue their journey through life. Farmington Journey's unique purpose is to inspire Farmington's midlife and older adult population to enhance and ignite their life experiences, health and happiness as they continue with life’s journey. This time in life can be a time of renewal with energy and purpose. Farmington Journey is an initiative led by Farmington Area Schools Community Education and the Farmington Parks & Recreation’s Rambling River Center. Come learn more at our Rotary meeting on March 23.
I've heard vague rumors, which to me is reason enough to spread this news. The following meetings are available for your entertainment pleasure. Be sure to attend so you can be entertained. Or so you can be informed, which isn't really popular these days but seems to be necessary.

Sticking with my "reliable sources" theme, a very reliable source tells me that your club made the following cash donations in 2016. I might just buy a pair of cowboy boots for Ramble Jam to celebrate. You should do something special to celebrate too, because this is amazing.

There is so much more to Rotary than meetings! I realize that might be hard to believe given the first three articles, but it's true. And this is where you get to really know your fellow Rotarians. No one forms bonds while listening to a speaker, so put yourself out there and get involved in all the ways Rotary is involved locally and in the world. Following are some upcoming opportunities:
Rosemount Rotary's Irish for a Day Soiree
Sat., March 18, 5:30–10:30 p.m. Rosemount Community Center
Farmington Rotary is purchasing eight tickets. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP to Linda if you want to go.
It's absolutely true! The Lucky Charms Leprechaun will be making an appearance at Rosemount Rotary's Irish for a Day Soiree on Sat., Mar. 18 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Rosemount Community Center. Seriously – I wouldn't kid about a thing like this. And it will be magically delicious.
Some of you might not be aware that the Farmington Rotary Club sponsored the Rosemount Rotary Club. So like, before us, they didn't exist. Which is why we like to support their fundraiser. Well that, and because of Nathan's pants.
So join your fellow Farmington Rotarians for the magic. The club normally buys a table, and I'm not guaranteeing it will happen again, but your board will vote on it at Thursday's board meeting and if you want one of the potential tickets, I suggest you get on the list now because they will go fast. Again, this is a safe list to be on: not the "We're taking names" kind of list that no one wants to be on these days. I am also not guaranteeing anything about Nathan's pants. You will just have to show up to see what happens. Or doesn't happen.
Hire the babysitter now and put this on your calendar. Let Linda know if you would like one of the tickets – assuming the club is buying a table – and if you'll be bringing a guest. Tickets for guests are $45 and can be purchased here.
Drew Carey, popular host of such memorable shows as Who's Line Is It Anyway and The Price is Right, isn't a member of Farmington Rotary. Bummer. Because he would be the most awesome meeting host ever! But until he joins, club members will continue acting as hosts for our weekly meetings. This responsibility is critically important to creating meetings that are organized, welcoming and informative. So what does that mean for you?
Each Rotarian is assigned to one month a year to be a meeting host. Newer Rotarians are always scheduled to host with longer-tenured Rotarians so there is someone to mentor those who haven't hosted before. Meeting hosts arrange for speakers for their assigned month, plus they arrive to meetings early for setup and stay after for cleanup. And monthly hosts are expected to communicate with each other about the plans for their month, plus arrange for someone to take your place as host if you cannot be at a meeting. The time commitment is about an hour a week for one month each year. Easy peasy! Specific instructions and responsibilities are detailed on an instruction guide found in the plastic file box kept in the closet at Celt's.
Heidi, our current club admin chair, emails meeting hosts two-to-three months in advance so you can plan speakers for your month. She also makes several announcements at meetings throughout the year. And meeting hosts for the up-coming months are listed each week in the Source. If you are unsure which month you are scheduled for, or what you're supposed to do, please reach out to Heidi, Linda or your co-hosts for the month.
